days grew ever darker

pained descents

bleakest places

agonied precipice

slimmed and narrowed,

weighted down

unseen mountains

deepest ravines

crags and ledges

freezing cold

….guilts and faults

not all yours…..

….but you alone

chose to take on

embracing an inner world’s ills

 

but have another drink,

closing

all doors

anyone,

anything

anywhere

anytime

outside

life

shut the blinds, lest any light

ever be allowed

to pierce

your darkness

ever

again

pointing across seas

to far-off lands

picking riddled sides

haunting precarious futures

sending tomorrow’s children

while fevered rumors

and blistering chants

languages of war

ratcheting up again

settling  widening differences

with more death, malice, and destruction

trading rocks and stones

of centuries past

for all of the

missiles and bullets

of a warped modern day

 

so soon

spilled
