Poetic Fragments

 The Colossus is falling!!

this place

where

death and life

disease and health

sanity and insanity

misery and joy

all traded spins….

On these same…

tiled floors

tired halls

where

new life once entered

as yet

another life exited

where

blood and medicine

mixed and melded

man

was

fixed

mended

amended

deconstructed

rebuilt

a place

granted

the living

where

some who dared to look deeper

found

humanity…..

           compassion…..

               empathy…….

                         a new start…

                            meaning…..

                                       forgiveness….

The Image is of the ‘Old’ Elmhurst Hospital being razed, where new Homes are to be built.

  1. Sometimes the enormity of time will hit all at once… Nicely expressed

  2. It’s funny, isn’t it, how so many of the old buildings are “re-purposed” or all out demolished to make way for “progress”? Some of the neatest (and yet saddest) photos I have ever seen are of “Urban Decay”. I suppose it’s better to have the land be useful for something like housing than to just let the old building sit there, abandoned.

    • We in the Larger Chicagoland area seem hellbent on knocking down buildings approaching the 100 year mark, or those of historical or architectectural worth. The shell/facade of this old hospital appears to be kept-gutting all else though. Thanks for the reaf/reply!!!
