Broken Prose Fragments

Broken Prose Fragments

Only

after the formaldehyde

stained walls

were ally

brought

down

only

after the acrid stench

of the countless drying skins

that were left

hanging to dry

in

a silent darkness

in the dregs

of this tannery

The

faceless immigrant workers

whose

broken backs

mental scars

hardened hearts

long ago silent

In

a time of

bare bone wages

Yesteryear’s

common

ordinary

blue collar jobber

100 years

…this place of death

…of the poisonous concoctions

dumped into the Chicago river

Welcome

to a view

of early 1900’s

Chicago
