Old sot
one more relic
of yet
another era
another war
another time
another place
yankee-doodle-that-paid-the-price
legs now gone
relegated
to a skateboard
morning scats
down the avenue
without failure
to
local gin mill
faithful home, away from home
away from pained realities
drinking away
the last
memories, nightmares, visions, and hopes
future
pissed away
eons back
I find myself
wandering
some 40+ years back
to an ever graying and fading
place down
mem’ry lane…damned
but now,
can only see you only
through
the eyes of an eight year old
then blinded
by
my own
innocence,
naivete,
and hopes
